Land Acknowledgement

Humana Community Services gratefully acknowledges the sacred land upon which we are privileged to live and work. We recognize the deep connection and long-standing relationship between Indigenous peoples and the land of southwest Ontario, and our responsibility for the stewardship of this land.   

We acknowledge that our programs rest on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, the Attawandaron, the Haudenosaunee, the Lenape, the Odawa, the Ojibwe, the Potawatami, and the Wendat. This land served as their traditional hunting grounds and has supported human beings for at least the past 10,000 years.

Today, this land continues to be home to many Indigenous peoples (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge the 11 First Nations communities in the region of southwest Ontario and the 133 province-wide.

Humana Community Services recognizes the inequities connected to colonization and its impact on Indigenous families, their culture, language and traditions. We commit to our ongoing learning in the journey towards reconciliation and to working towards creating a just, inclusive and vibrant community for all.
